Cleethorpes night club granted licence to sell alcohol and have music 24 hours a day seven days a week.
North East Lincolnshire Council has today (5 October '07) granted Cleethorpes largest night club their first 24 hours alcohol and entertainment Premises Licence.
Current owners of the Cleethorpes Pier, known as Pier 39, The Pier (Cleethorpes) Limited discovered that they were required to vary their Premises Licence following some internal structural alterations which effectively changed the plan attached to the licence. Kash Pungi, director, sought the assistance of Michael Kheng of Lincolnshire based Kurnia Licensing and Training Consultants for advice on the matter and Kurnia proceeded with a new application for a Premises Licence.
Robbie Marklew of The Pier (Cleethorpes) Limited told Kurnia that they wanted to be able to have the flexibility to be open 24 hours a day 7 days a week, sell alcohol 24 hours a day 7 days a week, have recorded music 24 hours a day 7 days a week and have all other forms of regulated entertainment 7 days a week but only for 22 hours a day.
Always up for a challenge Kheng proceeded with the application and lodged it with North East Lincolnshire Council at the start of September. The application was successfully granted today, 5 October, by the same authority today.
Upon hearing the news that his venue had become the first in NE Lincs to be granted a 24 hour alcohol and entertainment licence Kash Pungi said;
‘Obviously I am delighted with our new premises licence for the Pier. As a group we are pushing entertainment provision in North East Lincolnshire forward, with some pretty hefty investment. Our aim is to bring the area up to an acceptable standard and then surpass peoples expectations with regards to all of our current projects, whether it be our development of Healing Manor as a five star hotel, or the Pier as the area's premier entertainment venue. This licence and all that it encompasses will allow the venue to leap forward again, providing entertainment throughout the day. Boxing and wrestling are passions of mine, and I look forward to being able to introduce some international talent for family entertainment at the Pier, as well as the introduction of some late night refreshment through the newly developed kitchens in the Pier.’
Robbie Marklew followed by saying;
‘This is indeed an exciting piece of news. The Pier is undoubtedly the busiest nightclub in the area; this license now allows us to stretch our opening times and begin to offer the variety of entertainment the Pier was originally intended to provide when it was constructed back in 1872. The wheels of the marketing machine and now in full swing, and I for one am massively excited about being involved with a 1200 capacity venue that can offer entertainment on a level that has previously been unseen in Cleethorpes.’
Kurnia are entrusted with all entertainment and alcohol licensing issues for Mr Pungi’s companies and recently also obtained a Premises Licence for Healing Manor which is under construction which enables the Manor to also sell alcohol and have entertainments 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Michael Kheng said;
‘I am really pleased that at last the Responsible Authorities are seeing sense and permitting premises to have the flexibility of operating as they wish rather than being restricted. The Licensing Act 2003 will shortly have been running for 2 years in November and the last 2 years have seen a decrease in alcohol related crime. I wish Kash, his staff and his company all the best for the Pier and for all his other projects.’
