Change in Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS)

If your management changes or if you take over a premises with a Premises Licence that covers the sale of alcohol then you will more than likely have to change the DPS. If the existing named DPS notifies the licensing authority that he/she has resigned as the DPS of a Premises Licence and a new DPS is not appointed immediately then the premises will be unable to sell alcohol.

A DPS must be the holder of a valid Personal Licence.

Selling alcohol without a DPS in place is a criminal offence and could lead to a fine of up to £20,000 and/or 6 months imprisonment.

If you are an operator and your DPS leaves the company, or if you are moving into a premises where the DPS has left, it is important to ensure your application to vary the DPS is submitted as soon as possible.

When applying to change the DPS a copy of the application has to be served on the existing DPS so it is important to obtain their forwarding address.
